The connection between Dope On Plastic and Future Retro grew organically, first through a standout remix and later via radio moments that kept catching the ear of the label head. Things clicked properly after time spent together in New York, digging through ideas in the studio and hearing early versions take shape. ‘Life Energy’ gathers the strongest cuts from that period and captures a sharp, forward-thinking sound, from the kinetic drum programming and clean sub bass of the title cut to the jungle chaos of ‘Kong’ and blissed out soul yet blistering amens of ‘Odyssey’. ‘A Sowndbwoyz’ completes with a madcap collision of fractured drums and plunge bass, and is the sound of an artist hitting their stride.
