Liminal EP – Warm Up 86

Notzing makes his debut on the Spanish label Warm UP here having impressed with several solid EPs before now. This one has already been road-tested around the world by label head Oscar Mulero so it is pretty much guaranteed to make an impact. It is brutally raw and industrial-tinged techno with hard yet intricate, mental and physical details. ‘Protae’ is the first to make a mark with its rusted loops and unrelenting drums, then ‘Fagus’ pulls back to more minimal and atmospheric loops full of menace. ‘Ekaterin’ is a hazy mix of fuzzy frequencies and whacked-out drums and two further cuts layer up intense bass tones and deft synth manipulations. Artful tackle, for sure.
