UK producer Sub Basics is downplaying the art he has mastered with his own artist alias, because the low end of these two new live dub cuts is unreal. They come on Lion Charge and are impossible, deep and immersive. There is a nice drive to the a-side thanks to gentle wood hits that ride the lolloping kicks. Endless echo and decay bring infinite horizons next to occasional synth flutters, muted chords and conscious vocal additions that drift in and out like hazy memories. ‘Live Free (version)’ slows down even more and sinks you into an oceanic bass abyss that’s marbled with smoky pads and perfect for smoking sessions after dark.
