Mononom III – Sound Metaphors 23 10
Robbert Mononom firma la nueva referencia del sello alemán con dos tracks originales.
A rare radical in the had-to-be-there vein of late 90s free tekno, Sound Metaphors loosen many a shackle and chain in this deep-dig for Robbert Mononom’s Mononom III, first pressed in 1998 on his Dutch Mononom Soundsystem label. Long unavailable and thus traded for eye-watering prices, the 12″ captures the raw experimentation of a producer testing the limits of early DIY sequencing. Both ‘Dolphin’ and ‘8Bit Mayhem’ stretch wauybeyond the ten-minute mark: the first through dubbed-out low frequencies and pounding crackleware, while ‘8bit Mayhem’ drives harder, now re-engineered for clean DJ mixing after Robbert corrected a mischievous Borland Pascal 7.0 MIDI glitch that once made it nearly unmixable. Sound Metaphors give up an official edition, making an unbreakable machine-front urgency, while breadcrumbing a fresh path back into the best long-ago, dark European techno.
