My Own Shadow: Approaching – K7 458 EP

Berlin DJ Marcel Dettmann unveils ‘My Own Shadow: Approaching’, his first release under the My Own Shadow project on !K7. Raised near Berlin in the former GDR, Dettmann’s early influences ranged from Depeche Mode and The Cure to post-punk and industrial, long before the hyperproliferation that would make his techno career. The new five-tracker swerves darkly psychedelic, collapsing natural processes into orders-of-consciousness higher than we’d normally be able to handle: ‘DMT’, ‘Thinking’, ‘Approaching’, ‘Without A Cause (feat Ogazon)’ and ‘Timefold’, all of which work authoritarian atmospheres around hidden liberations of geiger-counting acid. Though mechanistic at first, the depth of Dettman reveals itself well through a sustained listening session.
