At just 12 years old, K Alexi Shelby was already inside the Music Box and the Warehouse, watching Ron Hardy and Frankie Knuckles work. And by 1987, he’d cut ‘Essence Of A Dream’ at ARS Studio with his cousin Mr. Lee, vocals done in a single take since the session was running out of time. Transmat followed in 1989 with ‘All For Lee-Sah’, with Alan Oldham’s artwork on the label, then the ‘KA Posse’ EP on Kevin Saunderson’s Pheerce Citi, which contains ‘Sex O’Clock Rains’, one of the period’s more unsettling acid records. So that’s nearly four decades of continuous production: now ‘Omg (Oh My God)’ surfaces as the first catalogue entry on Shelby’s own Klassik Blueprint Muzic imprint: two new Chicago choral house cuts, built around a whip-storming call-and-response revelation, before steamy kwaito-piano rousings on the B-side, ‘Who Wants It Deep?’.
