Wraz reduces us to ‘Pieces’, slamming it with his first official release on Deep Medi, the foremost home for dubstep’s most considered and system-minded expressions. An unusually cinematic approach shifts the om frequency: the title track opens with orchestral, almost classical tension before sinking into a slow-burning, sub-heavy crawl; ‘Tech’ locks dubstep pressure to stark 4×4 techno propulsion; ‘Lurch’ lays the trap influence out clean, 808s snipping like piranha nippings; and ‘The Crypt’ closes in a more inward, psychedelic register, descending sawtones and bumptious squares hitting with rude movement. Of course, it comes mastered with oversight by purple legend Joker, so we’re in for no surprises as to quality and finish.
