Episode 12 continues the UK label’s remarkable 30th-anniversary reissue series, once again tracing the evolution of trance through its best moments. Founded by Simon Berry in 1993, Platipus Records helped shape the melodic side of electronic dance music. Side-1 opens with Art of Trance’s ‘Octopus’, an undisputed classic and one of the label’s defining tracks. It’s tribal, eastern and euphoric, led by one of trance music’s most iconic acid lines. Next comes Praha Presents Xian’s ‘Pachinko (Part 1)’, a track that marked trance’s crossover into tech house and progressive sounds at the turn of the millennium, with its careful balance of melody and rhythm revealing a subtler, more mature phase of the genre. On Side-2, Simon Berry’s ‘Black Rainbow’ proves that the Platipus spirit endures and feels destined to become a modern classic. Closing the collection, Terra Ferma’s ‘The Adventures Of’ is an epic, vocal-led finale packed with towering emotional heights.
