Al Wootton’s Trule label always deals in red-hot good only, and this exceptional session from DK carries on that trend. If you like the darkly involving, tightly woven rhythmic tapestries of Muslimgauze and Shackleton, Parisian producer Dang-Khoa Chau is for you. His sound evolves from downbeat moods to propulsive rhythms here, and on ‘Realm of Symbols’ he fuses Southeast Asian percussion with spectral electronics to cook up sub-driven, atmospheric grooves. Tracks like ‘High Rise,’ ‘Stepping Stone’ and ‘Rough Dub’ are all about his drum precision, hypnotic flow and intricate sound design. It’s a masterclass in deep, shadowy techno-dub-bass. Heady AF, too.
