Now well into its 22nd year in operation, long-serving Madrid label Apnea welcomes hometown hero Jose Cabrera. The experienced producer has brought with him an exceptional label debut, as title track ‘Shadow Warrior’ – a brilliant blend of rolling Chicago house beats, sweat-soaked drum fills, squelchy TB-303 bass and starry, Motor City style synth stabs – emphatically proves. Cabrera opts for a deeper, breezier and more relaxed riff on the same Chicago/Detroit fusion style on ‘Paisa Querida’, while ‘JICCTQM’ is a warming, nostalgic chunk of tactile and melodious deep house headiness. The EP also boasts a ‘supercool’ remix of ‘Live Your Life’ by the mighty Omar-S, who places a reverb-laden female lead vocal atop a thumping beat and deep, weighty bass.
