Sinking: Plate 2 – Tectonic LP 28.2

Welcome to the second plate of Sinking, Beatrice M’s debut album on Tectonic, delivered immaculately and meaningfully over three 12s. After the largely techno influences of the first part, this mid-section definitely pays homage to their 140 roots. ‘Juice’ sets the scene with label mate Sir Hiss on link. An extended, groove-focused jam it gradually sets the scene to the album’s title track, ‘Sinking’, a direct call to the dancefloor with its bouncy, warm springy groove and precision shimmers. We then find ourselves in the midst of a heartfelt ode on ‘Dear Dubstep’ as B pens a letter directly to the genre that first pulled them into this strange old game. Last but not least for this particular leg we have ‘Help’, a mental-health minded moment of meditative reflection and subtle spoken word samples. Bring on part three.
