SOST 1 – Phonogramme 76

Here’s something to set the pulse racing: a first collaborative EP from SOST aka long-serving house and techno scene stalwarts Steve O’Sullivan and Satoshi Tomiie. In keeping with the sound and spirit of both producers’ work over recent years, the three tracks on show blur the boundaries between dub techno, deep house, spacey tech-house and effects-laden minimal techno. This hybrid sound is best exemplified by dreamy, slow-build A-side ‘Eastern Traffic’, though the cuts that follow on the flip are similarly impressive. ‘Hidden Skeleton’, a hypnotic and mind-altering slab of exceedingly dubby tech-house, is followed by the dub-flecked, locked-in thump of ‘Street Walk’.
