Newcastle jungle producer Nectax returns with ‘Star & Shadow’, his second EP of the year, through London label Up Ya Archives. Rooted in the industrial and nocturnal energy of the North East, the three-track EP fuses classic breaks, soulful vocal snippets, and playful pad work. Titler ‘Star & Shadow’ stretches nearly six minutes of tight, rhythmically charged interplay, followed by the shimmering textures of ‘Synaesthesia’ and the punchy, cinematic drive of the 70s spy thriller referent ‘Get Carter’. This one continues Nectax’s trajectory from earlier records on Hooversound, Future Retro, and his own Stereo 45 imprint, marking his first appearance on DJ Flight’s play:musik label since the ‘Body Talk’ EP fourteen years prior.
