Starquest EP – Deep In Dis 06

Bruce Vanderro, the artist occasionally known as Rawai, first popped in on Deep In Dis Intl earlier in the year. That, though, was a vinyl-only affair, making this four-tracker his first wax outing on the fast-rising Parisian stable. He opts for a raw, rave-igniting feel on opener ‘East Coast’, where rap samples, scratches and buzzing synth stabs leap above a hybrid tech-house/breakbeat groove, before wrapping curious movie soundtrack samples and twisted electronics around a booming bassline and all-action beats (‘Klendathu Attack’). Over on side B, ‘Max Spain’ is a bouncy tech-house number peppered with more breakbeat hardcore style stabs, while ‘I Luv You So Much’ fixes the weight and swing of speed garage to a typically trippy and energetic peak-time workout (and some unusual Michael Jackson spoken word samples).
