Sumac EP – Purple Print 23

Barcelona-based Chris Llopis and Cirkel Square often work together and opt to do so again with this new split EP on Purple Print. Their brand of menial is gloppy and dubby, deft and suspensory here: their collaborative ‘Sumac Fusion’ is up first with liquid rhythms and warbling, dehumanised vocal sounds softened by swirling melodies. Llopis goes it alone on two cuts – the wigged-out ‘Deep Fried’ and the darker cosmic terrain of ‘Tofu’. Cirkel Square’s ‘Mystic Mango’ is a heady workout with layered loops and tender melodic keys all floating above a dubby low end.
