Gun safeties cock and clips clatter to the ground, as Cairo producer Hassan Abou Alam’s first EP for Casa Voyager reloads for a fresh round from the same vessel – though he’s not swapping weapons. ‘Tarnished’ arrives after the artist’s many formative years of salvaging and modifying various rhythmic objects, then patching them into electro, breaks and bass. Like a thick clip-burst of bolts, bit with the friction of rasped metal, ‘Tarnished’, ‘Tool 22′ and Handookh’ land like a bullseyed burst of booty-shot. ‘Handookh’ hears a closing ‘OCB Motion’ mix, upping the speed to sonic-booming levels and zoning back to Egyptian time.
