If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it – and INigo Vontier clearly got the memo. The Jalisco, Mexico-based producer keeps his powder dry throughout, letting squelching synth work and rolling drums do the lion’s share of the work. ‘Desperado’ slips in with squelching synth figures and a lissom minimal swing, ‘Not That Please’ keeps the wheels turning through rolling drums, wiry shakers and a growling undertow, then ‘Flashy Riot’ (the pick of the bunch) lands on a tensile rhythmic framework with clipped snare chatter doing more with less. ‘Lado B’ then lets the dust settle, trading the club’s glare for a drowsy, Moodymann-indebted comedown.
