Ben Sims and Truncate are ASSAILANTS, a pair of venerated techno heads who are uncompromising in their work. This EP is the long-in-the-making follow-up to 2018’s ‘Chase Sequences’ EP on the co-run Obscurity is Infinite imprint, where they return now. All four cuts mix up OG hardgroove with raw and raucous machine funk. ‘The Roller’ begins with bristling percussion and slaloming drums but a playful edge, ‘Fracture’ then tightens up with a more slamming groove and acid twitches, ‘Fracture 2’ sinks into turbocharged dub swagger with an electrifying gospel vocal cry and ‘Effort 12’ shuts down with a dense wall of dusty, percussive techno with a dark soul. Epic.
