When LSB set up Footnotes, as he explained in a culture-shocking UKF interview, the aim was simple: slow things down, and depose machine d&b, instead preferring proper long-form, craft liquid. Despite the name Footnotes, their place in the d&b history books won’t be one. The 20th-ever release snaps them back onto our front page, as each featured artist – friends of the label new and old – occupies their own original niche. It’s a massive compilation, and this is the sampler: as for us, Vilah’s ‘Change’, and Noppo & Bazil’s ‘Rainfall’ have to be the hottest drips of wax here, thanks to light combos of rap and song verse: Harrison puts it best: «try to, just try to keep it all upon cloud nine…»
