Berlin-based hardware maestro Peryl walks the line between instinct and calculation in his music, and lets it morphing basslines and meticulous sound design dictate the flow. The four tracks of this new EP are abstract but alive, balancing grace with raw functionality. ‘Square Race’ opens with swagger and syncopation that is irresistible. ‘Vacuum’ has free-form drum patterns and synths that scurry about the face of the track in abstract ways and ‘555’ brings bold concrete funk and greyscale sounds. Berlin’s dark techno favourite Rodhad remixes with his usual blend of urgency and hypnosis in what might the standout track of the lot.
