Heavyweight (Dave Hook) reemerges as one of J Majik’s best trusted drum & bass familiars; the well-kept Infrared releasee was born and raised in London and is tied tightly to the label’s earliest jungle bravings. The artist also known as DJ Ruffkut resurfaces here now with ‘Volume Five’, landing decades into the label lifespan and still happily disconnected from modern polish. ‘Hostile’ rides an edge-banging, squared-off groove, while ‘No Mercy’ doubles down with a nastier low reg and no loss of forward-shove. J Magik’s taste for multi-alias expression by his signees reasserts itself nicely here.
