Scottish-born, Melbourne-based Pugilist steps into the Waveforms series with a pair of d&b tracks that feel grounded in memory and method. Both sides work from mid-90s breakbeat language, treated with care rather than nostalgia, the sound shaped by restraint and pacing. ‘Waveform 19’ opens cautiously, atmosphere stretching out before the breaks lock in, a familiar vocal fragment hovering as the rhythm tightens and folds back on itself. On ‘Waveform 20’, the drums arrive immediately, edits snapping into place as bass pressure builds underneath. It’s club music that trusts the tools, drawing energy from detail and flow, landing with the confidence of someone truly fluent in the form.
