There’s much to admire about the music of Non-Stop Rhythms founder Tom Carruthers, not least the Lancastrian’s love of sub-heavy futurism, jacking house and far-sighted electronics. Here the sometime L.I.E.S, Clone, Skylax and Craigie Knowes contributor makes his bow on France’s House of Underground imprint. He starts in typically nostalgic fashion via the sub-heavy, analogue-rich early 90s techno shuffle of ‘Intensity’, before doffing a cap to the pioneers of the hypnotic groove – well, LFO – on the excellent ‘Formation’. The Cheshire-based artist drops more revivalist bleep & bass heat on the intergalactic headiness of ‘State of Mind’, while ‘Unit 2’ sees him take us back to Chicago in the late 1980s with predictably strong results.
