Belgian producer Border One returns for his sixth EP through Token in five years, ‘Where Is Now’, a peak techno tumble through Cartesian space without assurance or reference. After ‘Inner Sight’ from 2023 and ‘Strange Attractor’ in 2024, Steven Petit has synthesised many a brilliant, experimental gateway drug, and the new EP is one of them, its inquisitive title lunging at the vein of timelessness: the title track and ‘Time Drift’ bring associations of isochrony and self-motive, with control variables of vari-velocity stabs and deep, lowpassed bumps, together hitting an abstract sweet spot. Then ‘Echo State’ and ‘Split Recall’ sound the real alarm, with vibes of security breach klaxons and flashing red lights.
