Fides Records continues to mark its tenth anniversary with a penultimate chapter here. X6 is lithe, funky techno pulled together with a fine curatorial ear and side A is full of stylistic range. Fireground’s ‘Aquaria’ opens with old-school Detroit spirit and harmonic fluidity that comes from live improvisation. Human Safari’s ‘Havanas’ pulls jazz and techno into an intriguing new alignment via a standout trumpet solo and mad-busy piano keys. ‘1morning’ closes the side with glitchy, early-2000s techno DNA while the flip belongs to deeper, more meditative territory. Macedonian producer Stojche’s ‘Perpetual Sin’ is a dub techno lesson in restraint and emotional subtlety, while Z.I.P.P.O and Mareena’s closing ‘Moonchild’ builds a tribal, dub-infused world of immersion built for big systems and late hours.
