Dutch producer and DJ Guy Blanken is the Talismann and a veteran who continues to push boundaries. A real sense of scale washes over you when in the midst of his latest EP, especially on the A-side, which is stretched into a 15-minute descent. ‘Eyes Don’t Lie’ moves with slow, deliberate force as its dub-techno framework circles through shadowy loops and distant echoes. The flip tightens with ‘Eyes Don’t Cry’ and ‘Nicotine’, which lean into functional territory that is direct and effective, while ‘Kliniek Dub 1’ returns to a deeper sound with jostling drums hitting like a master boxer’s perfect one-two combination.
