French artist Daif is the main man at Luminaere but Art Of Dark is where he heads now for this natter of fact Machine Music EP. And it truly is – electro that is stripped of everything and sounds alluring, cold and snappy. The synths hum with an 80s retro aesthetic, the grooves are rigid and the title track in particular is perfect body music. ‘UFO’ has a little more looseness to it with many layers of crashing drums and hits, jittery synth motifs and a bassline that borrows from EBM and dark wave. ‘Before’ is a quicker cut but is no less textured and dehumanised, while ‘The Mode’ swaps out industrialism for a lighter touch.
