The eighth release on Federson’s own Alt Dub reattends to his pattern of split collaborations, one previous partner being cv313 (Stephen Hitchell of Echospace Detroit). Here the pairing is Estray, the Belgrade renegade with a decade of releases on Sol Selectas, Neptune Discs and Akumandra, and whose rhythm schisms draws on African and Latin structures brought to dub’s lower ends. Federsen brings the analogue restraint and tape delay approach that fed him ever since his earliest spellbinding by Derrick May’s 1989 tapes; ‘Dubalearic’ plays it straight and filtered, setting a precedent to follow on the suceeding tracks, ‘Mareas Tranquilas’ being the curious tech house head’s exploratory choice.
