Drum & bass pioneer Dom & Roland stepped out recently to launch Individual, a label dedicated «to celebrate the uniqueness and character of individuals or artists, who stand apart from others of the same». The man knows his onions, too – he’s been active since the mid-90s and is one of the genre’s most distinctive producers with acclaimed releases on Metalheadz and Moving Shadow. He has always hustled at the outer edges of futuristic bass music and this latest drop on the label proves it. ‘The Dragon (part 1)’ pairs cinematic spoken words and tension-building one-note synth sequences before a distorted, devastating bassline erupts. ‘The Dragon (part 2)’ is just as doom-laden and heavy to start before more floaty-light drums and synths take off to the stars.
