Los Angeles’ 1morning has been making moves in shady techno realms for a couple of years now on labels like Circuit Breaker and Floorspeed. This time he lands on Munich’s much-loved Ilian Tape where breakbeats have made into a new art form. He opens this one with ‘I Know What You Do When You’re Alone’, a lithe and slippery rhythm defined by fluttery toms and surges of warming synth that come on like a rush of E. ‘I’ve Said It Before & I’ll Say It Again’ is loopy and light on its feet with disco pomp and plenty of tension built through smart filters. ‘Quarter Inch’ is more bulky and macho in its bobbling drums and scraping hits while ‘Are We There Yet?’ shuts down with layers of fizzy and fuzzy synth over drums with a tribal edge.
