Deeper Learnings EP – Mitsubasa 22

Berlin imprint Mitsubasa – «three wings» in Japanese – lines up the ‘Deeper Learnings’ EP from techno speed demon Novelty, where sound superhighways thrum with palpitating Detroit-style cargo. ‘Common Thread’ is the opening tunnel-hurtler, before ‘Deeper Learnings’ only furthers that sense of boy-racer velocity with its slick, breathy chords and type-melodies, as if the listener were trapped in an unending game of F-Zero X. Despite the relentless speed, there’s still a lot musicality in the slipstream, B-siders ‘Floor Relief’ and ‘Airlink’ treading raceways of minimal funk and chordgasmic dub.
