Drift EP – Planet Rhythm Dubwars 12

A veteran touch on Planet Rhythm’s conveyor belt of newer names, Marco Bailey’s ‘Drift’ EP is true techno for materialists, exchanging harmonics for inharmonics as melody sits in equal standing with sheer, scraping texture. Bailey cut his teeth on ’90s trance before switching back hard to techno around ’98, later founding MB Elektronics and helping steer Belgium’s tougher circuit; ‘Drift’ is one such steely control, with its tungsten grind, though ‘Submerge’ is more tuneful, a slow-attack, exhalatory gyratory despite the deep-sea feel. A similar sawtooth spike is formed across the Luca Accordi remix of the aforementioned and the closing ‘Sonic Ride’ and ‘Dub No Kick’, by the latter of which we’re well out of body.
