Dustin Zahn’s Enemy Records marks its not insignificant 20th anniversary with a string of special releases, including this welcome return from Marcal. His trial, ritualistic and shaming sound is front and centre here with ‘Swindle’ offering up a tapestry of paddy drums and toms run through with warped indigenous leads. ‘Two Become One’ is just as funky in its own subterranean way and ‘Blessing’ brings more tightly wound drum patterns that rock back and forth and bubble like molten sugar. ‘Perpetuity Wing’ is backlit and will have you up on your toes with its whispery synths and vocals, all making for a nice hallucinogenic trip.
