After the standout collaboration ‘L’Orologio’ on Smile Sessions, French producers JKS and Lacchesi reunite for more techno tomfoolery that sharpens their shared vision. The EP strikes a nice balance between JKS’s propulsive, high-energy drive and Lacchesi’s darker, more layered textures while moving between peak-time pressure and more reflective depths. ‘High & Dry’ opens with driving rhythms and shadowy atmospheres, ‘Get Johnson’ piles up pinging kicks and glitchy percussion and ‘Spectra’ brings some irresistible bounce and implicit funk. ‘Overhead, The Albatross’ is simple but effective, taught, tight minimal techno that journeys into deepest space.
