Space Drum Meditation are a German duo who cook up an entrancing sound where tribal rhythms merge with electronic charges across dub and techno. This latest on their own self-title label takes no prisoners and is an urgent call to the dancefloor, steeped in a sense of ancient mysticism but rooted with contemporary drums. ‘Jehol’ is a thumping tribal dub with hand drums peppering the fast bass. ‘Ochre Khrisma’ has nebulous vocal calls, aching cries from deep in the jungle and bird and monkey sounds that bring it to life in HD. ‘Ossifrage’ is a coiled rhythm with swampy chords melting into the cosmic darkness and ‘Sky Dancer’ then strips things back to a hyperdrive techno groove with abrasive textures and warped sirens that bring a city feel to an Amazonian setting.
