Ooof. Now. Here. We. Go. Special Request can mean a number of different things to different people. Although everyone agrees Paul Woolford’s alter-ego is inspired by the sounds of UK pirate radio and hardcore rave, it’s not always easy to pin the label on this particular wild mustang – instead, it’s better just to get your head down and stop chin-stroking about it. Not so on Uncanny Valley. This is most definitely music that makes you move like a party head possessed by the spirit of all that’s good and loud and energetic and intense. Batu’s unbelievably astute Timedance label providing a platform for a jungle beauty, Gyrofield taking that framework and turning it into something spookier and more reflective, while Metrist goes for a half-time assault of percussion and mad noises.
