2025 marks three decades since German house and techno veteran DJ Honesty (real name Hans Schaaf) released his first record. To mark the occasion, he’s popped up on Paris’s similarly long-serving Syncraphone label. Schaaf hits the ground running on opener ‘Wired’, where fizzing and spacey synth motifs and dubbed-out electronic sounds ride a bubbly bassline and the kind of hip-swinging tech-house drums that used to be the hallmark of Steel City twosome Swag. Satoshie Tomiie remixes, reframing it as a more dubby and hypnotic roller, before Schaaf delivers a ‘darker dub’ of ‘Otono’, which adds dub techno sonics, bass and textures to a bustling tech-house beat. Those dub sonics reappear on the smoother and headier closing cut ‘Wonz’.
