The vocal gravs of Birmingham dub sage Ras Tweed reach orbital range on this latest 7″, reaching a careful balance of planetary pull and flowing suspension. Tweed comes from a UK soundsystem lineage rather than pop reggae, his grainy, declarative delivery sitting right at home on the curated Hiss Is Bliss outlet, one of the last of whose releases was jokingly named ‘Buy My DVD’. Recorded at home in Brum, ‘Word Sound & Power’ evocates a second look at history (and so ample rewinds) against front-and-centre snap beats, planted centrally with nowt stereo fluff. ‘Power Version’, on the other hand, dashes the talk, white noise whooshes doubling the claps and creeping tape delays on Wavestation stabs.
