IMOGEN and Ben Pest return to Wigs Records with the long-awaited follow-up to their last outing, ‘Volts’, from back in 2021. If that 12″ established their language, Hellangel accelerates it into sharper, wilder and more explosive sounds that are meticulously engineered but stay super defiantly raw. Beep techno, acid and electro are the building blocks infused with both artists’ fierce individuality. IMOGEN’s razor-edged rhythms collide with Ben Pest’s modular chaos on ‘Pulsar’, ‘The Swan That Sunk’ is blistering and caustic for heavy sound systems, ‘Rippled’ is a hard techno clammer with swing and funk and ‘Captain Crunch VIP’ brings more percolating electro-techno potency. ‘The Mute’ goes for brute force and splintered sonics.
